Zeytinli Mosque

Urfa, Turkey 2019

The design decision is to contribute to the values and cultural history of Harran, Urfa, and its citizens by associating with the surrounding environment. In an area where searing heat rules everything, the power of using one texture references the first mosques lacking aesthetic considerations. As the forms of buildings come together, the transition spaces and the relation with existing street textures are vitally important in determining their function. Zeytinli Mosque captures simple architectural rhetoric sensitive to the city's geographical features, climate, ecology, and social life.

In this consistent-scale architectural solution, the aim is to create an original and qualified mass composition increasing the spatial quality of the building by producing intervals, protecting it from the sun and creating cool spaces, and ensuring water continuity within the whole area with scratches.
